RYA Courses on Sail Camp
Start Yachting with Sail Camp
The RYA Start Yachting course provides a safe and friendly introduction to sailing. During the your time with Sail Camp you will experience steering a yacht, sail handling, rope work and become aware of safety on board.
Everyone on sail camp will be able to achieve their RYA Start Yachting qualification and get a certificate at the end of the voyage.
Competent Crew - becoming a useful crew member.
Competent Crew is the course for the absolute beginner to learn the basics and to enjoy the delights of sailing aboard a cruising yacht.
It is also an ideal stepping stone for dinghy sailors who wish to try yachting and for those who have already done some crewing but wish to develop their sailing skills a little further.
The average crew member can complete the RYA Syllabus for this course during a 7 day adventure.
RYA Day Skipper / Watchleader - Learn to take command
The Day Skipper Course is aimed at teaching pilotage, navigation, seamanship, weather forecasting, victualling, engine maintenance, sail selection and boat handling up to a standard required to skipper a small cruising yacht by day in familiar tidal waters.
This is the certificate you need should you wish to charter a yacht in the UK or aboard.
If you have previous experience we will help you gain these qualifications during our 14 day Sail Camp adventures. However, please note that on some of vessels (the larger classics) mooring can only be undertaken by trained permanent crew and therefore you can only be issued with the Watchleader Certificate upon completion.
RYA Essential Safety and Navigation
This course covers the basics for all water users including anyone new to sailing, power boats, motor boating, sea angling and diving as well as experienced dinghy and keelboat sailors and inshore racers.
It is designed to give knowledge of tides, buoyage and basic pilotage skills to all water users and acts as an excellent foundation course for the Day Skipper Theory for a Competent Crew level water user that who would like gain more knowledge.
It should be possible to obtain this certificate on a 10-14 day Sail Camp course.
For more advanced crew members RYA Day Skipper Theory could be made available upon request.
VHF Radio Operators Certificate
This course teaches the basics of VHF radio operation, the correct frequencies (channels) to be used, distress, urgency, safety and routine procedures to the knowledge required to obtain a VHF Licence.
The VHF radio network has seen some fundamental changes with the implementation of the Global Maritime Distress Safety System (G.M.D.S.S) and these changes are discussed on the course.
Quaystage Training (Sail Camp) is able to deliver the whole RYA Syllabus as individual courses which are run separately to our Sail Camp Adventure programmes. See our Learn to Sail section for details.
