Quaystage training provides dedicated Youth and Teen RYA Courses to schools and individuals throughout the year alongside an adult course programme.
As a recognised RYA Training Centre able to offer the full RYA Yachtmaster Training Syllabus. Throughout the sailing seaon we offer a full range of practical and shore-based courses, along with a number of online theory courses.
Our courses are predominantly open to young people aged 12-24, however, we do run adult training weeks during the school term period.
All our Summer Teen and Youth Sail Camp Adventures offer RYA Certification, and are run during the school holiday periods.
There will never be more than 4/5 students on board a dedicated RYA Course weeks although the yacht sleeps up to 8 this enables us to provide accommodation to meet additional supervision for Safeguarding requirements if needed. It also means we are able to offer the best trainee: instructor ratios to those on board.
Our courses will be FULLY INCLUSIVE of accommodation on board the yacht, meals, hire of wet weather gear, life jackets and berthing fees.
We run all the RYA Sailing Courses on modern yachts and our instructors and examiners are the chosen for their patience and excellent reputations and are proud of our reputation for running courses for both Young People and Adults.
If you have never sailed before the best course to start with is an RYA Start Yachting Course where you can start learning from the basics. This course enables you to “Try it and See” if you like sailing
Beginners can take 5 day RYA Competent Crew, which can also be conducted on 2 weekends ( 1 x 2day and 1 x 3 day) or add the 3 day weekend to their start yachting experience.
The next step is the RYA Day Skipper Theory, followed by the RYA Day Skipper Practical Sailing Course which prepares you to take a boat out on your own as Skipper and gives you the confidence to charter a boat. This course is usually 5 days but can also be completed over 2 weekends (1 x 2 day and 1 x 3 Day)
Having conquered day skipper the you can then complete your RYA Coastal Skipper Practical Course , giving you that extra confidence for passage making and night sailing.
You can then do RYA Coastal and Yachtmaster Theory, and then after building up your mile with one of our Mile Builders in your logbook you can go for the RYA Coastal Yachtmaster Preparation and Exam Course, before moving to enhance all your skills with a little more experience to undertake the RYA Yachtmaster Coastal/ RYA Yachtmaster Offshore Preparation and Exam Course commercially endorsing it to work in the industry as a skipper or as cruising Instructor. Your next step, is to study the art of astro navigation in the RYA Ocean Yachtmaster Theory course to enable you to truly, explore, sail, and discover!
If you need to brush up any practical skills along the way our practical skills weekends are an ideal and social way to learn.
Quaystage Training's RYA practical sailing courses are conducted in Solent, and South Coast of England onboard our training yachts based from Hamble Point Marina. There maybe occasions when our course start in other locations. You will be informed at the time of booking where your course starts and this will be confirmed in your joining instructions.
We offer the complete RYA Yachtmaster Cruising Scheme Syllabus. Our open RYA Training week for indvidual bookings are usually 5 day courses from Monday to Friday and in the last week of each calender month.
For Schools, colleges and other youth organisations we are able to create bespoke training programmes during school term periods and weekends. Please contact us for information.
Quaystage Training's Shorebased Theory courses are taught in our classrooms at our office in Ocean Village and also in schools we work with around the country. We also offer online options through our training partner Ardent Training (https://ardent-training.com/)
We run a variety of 1 day and 5-7day shorebased courses. Some of the longer 5-7day courses (as with our practical courses too) these may be taken over 3 weekends if that fits your schedule better. We follow the RYA syllabus for all of our courses and award RYA certificates as appropriate.
RYA Theory Courses teach navigation from beginner courses to more advanced Yachtmaster level. The courses cover tide calculations, tidal streams, course to steer, estimated positions, and the use of GPS navigation systems.
The one-day specialist courses teach useful and essential background knowledge and skills.
for Completion of RYA Practical for Competent Crew, Day/Coastal Skipper
This 5 days RYA Sailing Courses, which take place on our school yachts for those wishing to gain RYA qualifications, as we sailing around the Solent to a different marina, or harbour, or anchorage each night and sleeping onboard in cabins and practicing and learning the skills required to sail safely and take command of yacht.
From our base at Port Solent, we run the full range of RYA Practical Sailing Courses in and around the Solent on the South Coast.
The Solent is recognised as the hub of the UK's yachting community. You will get expert instruction from our great team of sail training specialist, on a course are deleivered to allow you to build your level of sailing expertise and confidence.
This course will start and Finish in Port Solent.
You can join the vessel at 0800 on Monday morning, but you are welcome to join us onboard for Sunday Evening.
All food (except meals eaten ashore), marina fees and also safety equipment and tuition.
Oil Skins and other Wet weather gear can be hired from us for the duration of our course. Please ask as for details when you make your booking.
